ABOUT ME

Kristin Wilson, RN, LMT

Hello! I want to relieve your chronic pain. Tight neck and shoulders? Sciatica? Headaches? Low back pain? I’m here to escort those shoulders down and back so you can stand upright, loosen those glutes that are likely constricting your sciatic nerve, and bring that pelvis into balance by releasing your quads and hamstrings to remove the strain from your low back. What does this mean for you? Less pain, leading toward no pain. It doesn’t all happen in one session, but I believe it’s worth the investment to have one’s quality of life improved.

When I entered massage school I’d had chronic pain in three areas of my body for over a decade. I was resigned to having pain as I thought it was the price we pay for getting older and physical therapy and meds had provided little relief. Six months into school I was not only pain free, but was more flexible than I’d been as a kid, and I felt like I was gloriously aging in reverse. It seemed like a miracle but was simply the result of focused and consistent massage.

Now I want to help others feel this good. If I can bring your level 6 pain down to a level 4 in one session chances are good that in the next session I can bring that 4 down to a 2, and then ideally to zero. My clients say in addition to alleviating their pain, our sessions enable them to walk easier, be more active, sleep better, and one even said it improved her marriage because her husband said she wasn’t grumpy anymore! I’m not surprised, as chronic pain can take a heavy toll.

At the start of a session I want to know what’s most important to you, physically and otherwise. I will partner with you and focus on your goals. After we chat, I’ll give you the full 60 or 90 minute (or three hour!) massage you booked.

Have you been disappointed by a massage therapist who talked the whole session? Or didn’t use enough pressure, or conversely, dove in painfully fast? That’s not my style. I communicate just enough to get the pressure the way you like it and a few directions for positioning. If you engage me in conversation I’ll join in, otherwise I’m quiet. Please though, do tell me what you’re experiencing. If you tell me what you want or what’s not working, I can adjust and it will result in a better massage for you. Open communication works best.

I find Thai-inspired massage, with the client clothed, on a mat on the floor to be the most effective at alleviating pain and stiffness, and improving range of motion. It’s deeper than deep tissue- or so my clients say. I’m able to do far more on the mat than I can on the table. Nothing like my knee pressing into your quads! And then there’s stretching and me putting your body into yoga positions. Mat work enables me to use your body weight when my feet are under your back and hips. Working on the floor may seem strange, yet when people give it a try they rarely go back to table massage because it is dynamic, stretches as well as compresses, and releases things in big ways. And don’t worry, all this talk of deep tissue is for the folks who just can’t find the pressure they’ve been seeking, but I am happy to deliver any kind of pressure you like.

My promise to you is to create a safe and welcoming space for every person, no matter their age, size, ethnicity, or if LGBTQ+ or differently abled, to use excellent communication, and to do my very best work with every client, every session.

The small print: I put my money into classes so I can learn and be a more effective therapist. I have not put my money into creating a spacious beautifully decorated spa-like studio. I have a small but functional room in a funky little office building on Ingersoll where you can sometimes hear voices from the hall or traffic though the window. My linens don’t match and my bolsters are couch cushions. And….I will welcome you with unconditional positive regard and give you my very best work.

“The pain is 50% less than it’s been for months.” - Kylie A. (Athlete, the day after her first 90 minute session.)

“There is a new world of hip mobility for me! I was looking forward to being very sore. I feel more like the Tin Man after they oiled him! New muscles are sore, ones that couldn’t get used before! I think that massage has made it easier to exercise. My sumo squats are way deeper now! I swear I can even walk faster!” - Roy H.

“I used to have to stop three or four times on the way to the bathroom to lean on something and breathe through the pain in my hip. Now I walk easily and barely get a twinge if anything. And my husband loves you. He says I stopped being grumpy when I started seeing you.” - Linda R.

“Why would anyone ever want to do massage any other way [than on the mat?] I never want a table massage again. That was so deep!” - Carrie E.

“I have hope for the first time in years. The pain at the base of my skull has been debilitating and unrelenting for so long.” - Janelle M.

“The tension and pain in my mid back is gone this morning and I swear I can even breathe better. Amazing!” - Rhonda O. (This was after a two hour session. She had a lung lobe removed a decade ago and has suffered daily with pain from back tension related to the surgery ever since, despite regular massages.)

“There’s no way anyone could get in around my shoulder blades with their hands like you can with your feet. This is the most relaxed I’ve ever been without meds.” Kim D. (After a three hour mat/table combo session.)

“This is similar to deep tissue without it being as painful and it gets all the spots you don’t usually get in traditional massage- side of hips, top of shoulders, deep into the side of the neck.” - Kim E.

“Kristin is such a wonderful massage therapist. She has exceptional intuition to understand what's going on in your body. She communicates just the right amount to assess how you're feeling throughout the massage. Her compassion is evident in the way she massages and is able to tune into your pain to alleviate it. I felt amazing after my massage with Kristin and she really addressed some major pain I was having.” - Bridget Smith, trainer and owner of Muscle For the Journey.

“I really liked that. It was completely different. It’s deeper than the table massages.” - Mathew M.

“After my last appt here I went to the chiropractor and she just kept saying ‘WOW! WOW!’ at every move because I was so loose!” - Linda H.

“When I used to walk down a long cement hallway at work my one leg would just hit the floor so hard with my heel striking hard and loud with every step. But now, even two weeks after my last [mat] massage I noticed there is no hard hit on one side anymore. Now they are even!” - Sarah Z.

“That [floor mat session] was better than chiropractic! Relaxing and rejuvenating.” - Kathy M.

“Kristin did a superb job addressing my individual issues. She is very knowledgeable and used various methods to reduce my pain from an old repetitive work injury that yoga just hasn’t fixed.” - Elaine O., Yoga Instructor

“I highly recommend Kristin. She always begins by identifying your needs and then asks about the pressure throughout the massage. She’s very professional and very personable. I would give her four stars!” -Claudia M.
